The Metamorphosis Study

The second environment done for the Lightbox Expo: Box of Mystery challenge. I don't think i've ever properly painted an interior scene before so this one was definitely difficult for me but I enjoyed it!

The house interior is quite narrow and chaotic. This second setting is the study room on the first floor tucked under the eaves at rear of the house. The beams are laden with large living insect pupae being studied which wriggle from time to time and at the far end, stairs curl down to the laboratory. Anyone passing through must make sure to give the grub on the floor a pat and a snack.

I chose to portray the early morning when our scientist goes up to check on the insects. Overnight, it seems that someone has undergone metamorphosis and wishes to be set free at the window.
